HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown in Alexandria: What to Know First

HeatShield chimney cap and crown work in Alexandria typically runs $340 to $1,850 depending on the failure mode. Most HeatShield caps are repaired same-visit; crowns take one to three days including cure time. The price is written down before any work starts, so you’ll never get a surprise number after the fact.

This page is for Alexandria homeowners who already own a HeatShield product and want to know what’s actually going on with the cap or crown on top of it. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop. That means we repair based on the condition we see, not a loyalty program. Corrine Halstead and our crew service the older colonials off Seminary Road, the townhomes near Del Ray, and the newer builds closer to the waterfront. Call (240) 290-6726 and we’ll tell you over the phone what a visit costs before you commit. No voicemail. A person picks up.

How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • HeatShield S1 and S2 Series flue pans crack at the seam. The steel seam where the cap pan meets the skirt is the first thing to go on Alexandria roofs. It’s not a material defect. It happens because freeze-thaw cycles in this climate work that spot harder than anywhere else. Water pools on the pan, freezes, expands, and the seam flexes until it separates. We see a lot of these on homes near King Street and in Rosemont. Fix: we replace the cap with a matching-gauge pan plus a welded, not caulked, seam.
  • HeatShield CrownSaver pull-tight bands loosen on masonry stacks. The CrownSaver relies on a metal band that gets cinched around the chimney crown. The clay mortar on older Alexandria chimneys doesn’t hold tension well. The band loses its grip, the crown shifts, and water gets under it. A technician who caps and runs won’t catch it. We pull the band, inspect the crown surface, and reset it with a mechanical fastener only if the masonry is sound enough to hold it. If it’s spalling, the band gets abandoned and we pour a new crown instead.
  • HeatShield S4-series multi-flue caps get bent during installation. This is an installer problem, not a HeatShield problem. The S4 has a wider pan footprint. A crew that doesn’t walk it into place can warp the pan before the first rain hits. Then water pools off-center and runs down the liner chase. We see this on newer homes in Potomac Yard where builders rushed the cap install. Fix: we straighten the pan if the metal’s intact; if it’s creased, we source a new S4 pan and install it level.
  • HeatShield OEM caps on 1980s-era homes don’t play well with replacement liners. A lot of Alexandria homes built between 1980 and 1995 got a HeatShield cap installed alongside an original clay liner. The owner later had a stainless liner dropped in but kept the old cap. The cap’s skirt diameter was spec’d for the clay flue, not the smaller stainless liner. Result: a gap that leaks into the chimney chase and rusts the liner. If you have a cap that looks oversized for your flue, that’s probably what’s happening. Fix: a new cap with the correct skirt ID, and we document it with photos before and after.
  • HeatShield Coronal delaminates on crowns with active water penetration. HeatShield’s Coronal crown coating bonds to concrete and mortar. It works on sound surfaces. On a crown that’s already cracking and letting water through, the coating seals it for a season and then lifts. You can’t coat over a bad crown and call it done. In Alexandria, where freeze-thaw cycles stress crown surfaces repeatedly, we address the structural issue first. We’ve removed HeatShield coating that was applied over active cracking by other companies. The camera doesn’t have an opinion. It just shows you what’s there.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
Call. You reach a live person at (240) 290-6726. We ask what you’re seeing: water in the firebox, a loose cap after a windstorm, rust streaks on the crown. We give you a written visit price before we roll.
  2. 2
Camera-scan inspection. We run a camera down the flue and along the crown surface. This is NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection, not a flashlight wave. You get photos of everything we find.
  3. 3
Findings, on paper. We show you the photos and hand you a written scope of work with a dollar figure. Nothing gets suggested without photos you can see. Nothing goes on your bill without your signature.
  4. 4
Parts decision. If your existing cap or crown is HeatShield, we look at what’s still serviceable and what isn’t. We source OEM where it matters (pan fit, band tension) and use quality aftermarket where it doesn’t (weather stripping, fasteners). We explain the difference and let you choose.
  5. 5
The work. We install, repair, or recoat. For crown work, we stage it so the concrete cures right in Alexandria’s humidity. No shortcuts on cure time.
  6. 6
Closeout. You get a photo record of everything we did, a written warranty, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right.

What HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Alexandria

Work Typical Range in Alexandria
HeatShield cap replacement, single flue $340 – $620
HeatShield cap replacement, multi-flue (S4 series) $575 – $1,150
Crown repair (crack fill, resurfacing) $280 – $475
Full crown pour (small-to-mid chimney) $620 – $1,250
Crown coating after repair $220 – $390
Custom cap for odd-sized flue or specific HeatShield fit $465 – $1,850

What moves the price: roof access difficulty, flue count, crown height above the roofline, and whether we’re dealing with the original HeatShield pan or a replacement gone wrong. A two-flue cap on a steep Del Ray pitched roof costs more than a single-flue cap on a flat Rubbermaid-accessible commercial stack. Every quote is written, in dollars, before any work starts. Call (240) 290-6726 and get a free estimate. No “call for pricing” games. The price is the price, and it’s on paper.

Why Alexandria Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Alexandria for HeatShield Work

Why Alexandria Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Alexandria for HeatShield Work

We’ve worked on enough HeatShield caps and crowns in Alexandria to know which failure modes repeat block to block. The seam cracking on the S1. The band loosening on the CrownSaver. The oversized-cap-on-new-liner gap. We know them because we’ve photographed them a few hundred times, not because we read a manufacturer bulletin.

Our process is what gets people to call. The camera-scan inspection comes first and it’s included, not an add-on. The written price comes before any work starts. That’s Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: Have it in writing. Our techs are background-checked, uniformed, and licensed. Clause 5: Verified crews. Every job gets a documented photo record before and after. Clause 4: the archive we’ve kept running since 2009.

When a HeatShield product isn’t the right fix, we say so. We stock and service DuraFlex and Gelco products as alternatives. We’re not married to one brand’s spec sheet if it doesn’t fit your chimney. And our 365-Day Done Right Promise means if something’s not right, we come back and fix it. Not a prorated credit. A callback.
